(218) Nathan Fletcher 39 + 4 apps
(100) Paul Fletcher 2 apps
Full back who came to Gedling Road on loan from Bill Brindley's Ilkeston Town in March 1995 having been known to Arnold manager Ray O'Brien from his time at Corby Town. The first of Paul's two games as cover for Mark Clarke came in a goaless draw at Ossett Albion on 28th Mar. 95.
(63) Peter Fletcher 160 + 9 apps 100 goals
A massive character "Mr Magic" was definitely the "leader" in the GR clubhouse during his time at the club. Held the record for number of goals scored by an Arna player for many years until finally overhauled by Chris Freestone. Made his Arna debut 17th Oct.1992 in a 0-0 draw against his former club Heanor Town at the Town Ground. The first of Fletch's 100 goals arrived one week later (24th Oct) in the 4-1 win over Kimberley Town at GR. At 30 years of age Pete Fletcher was approaching the back end of an illustrious career in non-league football when he joined ArnoldTown from Heanor. At every club he'd been at "Fletch" had delivered the goods.....goals! Before the Lions and the Eagles Belper Town, Eastwood Town, Priory Eastwood and Hucknall Town had all reapt the benefits from the "magical" goal machine. It's worth noting that Peter was in the Priory side that lined up against Arnold Town in the Eagles' very first home fixture at Gedling Road on 9th Sept. 1989.
His eye for goal was coupled with tremendous close ball control and an unerring ability to turn the half chance into a shooting opportunity. The fact that he hardly ever missed from the penalty spot also helped to ensure that, more often than not, he led his team's goal scoring chart. This feat he achieved twice whilst at Gedling Road; in his first season 92/93 he notched 30 goals whilst in 94/95 he was again top of the list with 28.
On 15th Jan 1994 Pete scored all five goals in the 5-0 away win at Brodsworth only the third "Arnold" player to achieve this feat since 1970 the last being Dennis Jenas on 26th March 1986. On 19th Feb. 1994 Fletch reached the half way mark in his Arnold goal tally netting his 50th (and indeed 51st) strike in a 3-1 home victory over Immingham Town. Remarkably the half ton mark was achieved in just his 61st appearance!
Fletch was pretty determined not to end his career before reaching the 100 milestone for Arnold. In his final season for the club (96/97) injuries had reduced him to a shadow of his former self. But finally, in his 167th appearance for the Eagles he got the all important goal on 15th October 1996 (almost four years to the day after his debut) by the following week, just two more appearances later, he was gone from Gedling Road for good.
Rather aptly the historic goal was the only one scored in a 1-0 league victory at Gedling Road over Armthorpe Welfare although sadly only 96 were on hand that Tuesday night to witness the event, For the record the Arnold line that evening was:- Neil Waters, Chris White, Chris Stanbra, Marvin Marston, Bryn Gunn, Craig Clark, Mark Brookes, Gene Buxton, Pete Fletcher, Kris Maddison, Paul Haywood. Used Subs - Adi Thorpe and Dean Rafferty Unused Sub - Steve Odell

"Freeo's" record breaking career with the Eagles began in the 93/94 close season when he arrived at GR from Notts Alliance side GPT Plessey along with four other players and Plessey's manager, Iain McCulloch. Prior to passing through Plessey Chris had been at Basford, Keyworth and Eastwood Town from where he undertook regular trials with Grimsby Town.
The first of Freeo's 119 goals for Arna came on his debut in the 9-0 demolition at Selby Town on opening day of the 93/94 season 21st Aug. 1993. League scouts were soon alerted to Gedling Road's new scoring sensation and by the end of Oct. 1993 Chris had been on trial with both Leeds United and Nottm Forest. He scored the winning goal in a 2-1 victory for the Reds' Reserves against Aston Villa Res and the only goal for Leeds United Res in their 1-3 loss to Bolton Wanderers Res on 28th Oct.93. The Leeds second string that night included a debut for Finnish U21 star Sami Hyypia and other well known names such as John Lukic, Ray Wallace, Noel Whelan, Steve Hodge and David Rocastle.
Scout spotting became a favourite game at Arna matches at this point as Huddesfield Town joined Leeds, Forest and a host of other clubs taking a keen interest in Freeo's goal scoring exploits. Grimsby were still in the frame as well and Chris scored two goals for their Reserve side in March 94.
With the various league clubs still unwilling to take a risk on Freeo in a little over a year after his first goal for Arnold Chris reached the 50 mark with a penalty in the 2-0 home victory over Sheffield on 8th Oct. 1994. However, the scouts were soon put on full alert once again on 22nd Oct. 94 when Chris score seven times in the 10-1 demolition of Denaby United at Gedling Road and Notts County were soon giving him further run outs in their reserves. But in the end it was Bryan Robson's Middlesbrough who took the plunge and signed Chris just weeks after his seven goal exploits for an initial £10,000 fee bringing down the curtain on
Chris' first period at Arna which saw him grab an incredible 67 goals in just 60 games!
In the following two seasons Chris averaged almost a goal per game for Boro's Reserves but his first team apps were limited to just nine. He did however score his one goal for Boro on his debut in a 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday in April 1996.
In 1997 he went out on loan to Carlisle (5 apps 2 goals) and Northampton (2 apps 2 goals) before a permanent move to the Cobblers saw him make a further 58 apps scoring 12 goals between 1997 and 1999. In the following season (99/00) Freeo moved to Hartlepool (37 apps 7 goals) and was then involved in another loan spell (Cheltenham 5 apps 2 goals) before ending his pro career at Shrewsbury in 2000/01 where he made 27 apps.
